Cheap and cheerful DVD player
Just bought a cheap and cheerful DVD player for the bedroom TV, costing under 60 bucks. It seems to be able to read whatever kind of discs I feed into, even including my burnt discs of travel jpeg photos.

hey~ i got a cheap DVD player and recorder a few weeks ago. it's so great~ i can actually record the programs in the hard-disk, then transfer it to DVD if i want. of coz i can edit and trim the recorded programs too~ yay! made in china!

i have also thought about buying a dvd recorder. but here in australia, dvd recorders can only record free-to-air tv programmes, which is useless to me since i seldom watch free-to-air. the cable tv provider has its own dvd recorder, but it can only record programmes to its hard disk. it does not have dvd burning capabilities.
what can dvd recorders in hk record? only fta? or cable as well?

in this world (especially in hk) when there's a will, there's a way!
the recorder from foxtel (the cable operator here) used to retail at a$395 upfront + a$6 per month. too expensive.
they have just reduced the cost to a$10 upfront + $10 per month. now it's tempting. i can use it to record football matches and movies.
