先看下面一篇joetsang.net集團網誌業務簡介:

Google Street View comes to my place

Google Maps introduced its new Street View function in Australia 2 days ago.

Out of curiosity, I checked whether my humble place of abode was covered by this latest and greatest technology. Indeed it was!

Only in Australia: sickie tradition 'under threat'

A self-confessed footy fanatic is appealing a landmark ruling that upheld his sacking for taking the day off work to watch an AFL game.

In what lawyers claim threatens the Australian tradition of taking a sickie, Nathan Anderson, a former trainee dealer with Melbourne's Crown casino, failed to have his sacking overturned by the federal Magistrates Court.

Mr Anderson, 27, obtained a medical certificate after telling a doctor that he wanted to see Sheedy coach his last game in Perth.

He was warned by Crown not to take sick leave to attend the game, but flew to Perth, later insisting he had been suffering "emotional distress" at the thought of missing the match.

Mr Anderson told Crown that it was not open to the company to question his medical certificate, and that he was "highly passionate" about Essendon, Sheedy, and club star James Hird, who played his last game that day.

Federal magistrate dismissed Mr Anderson's claim that he had been unlawfully terminated, finding his absence from work was not caused by illness or injury. "Mr Anderson basically told all concerned at work, 'I am going to go to this game come what may and I will get a certificate to justify my position'," he said.

Here comes autumn

Today is officially the start of autumn in Australia. Overall, the summer months were pretty mild and wet.

While we had a 40 degree day in late February, high 20's-low 30's was the norm and the air-con was switched-on only occasionally.

With the dam level reaching a dangerously low level of 15% at the start of the year, La Nina and the rain she brought couldn't have come at a better time. More than half of the summer days were rainly. As a result, dam level has improved to almost 40% now and the we are allowed to water the garden by hose for one hour this weekend. But since we have already installed a giant water tank (which is full most of the time), we haven't been using mains water for gardening purpose for quite a long while already.

The heavy rains also brought drought relief to the rural areas. The central and northern parts of Queensland, though, suffered much from severe flooding.

According to weather forecasters, La Nina is here to stay for the time being and the autumn is likely to be wetter than normal.

QLD tourists to limit shower time

Tourists coming to south-east Queensland will be asked to do their bit to save water in the drought-hit region.

Queensland Water Commission chairwoman Elizabeth Nosworthy said a new proposal would require accommodation providers in the state's south-east to install signs in bathrooms.

The signs would ask tourists to limit their showers to four minutes and not to leave the tap running while brushing their teeth or shaving.

To date there have been no uniform measures to encourage tourists to save water and information campaigns and signage has been provided by individual councils.
